Primal Singing

What is Primal Singing?

Primal Singing is a reconnection to the innate aliveness of our voice. The power to express our human experience and the relationship we have to this world. It is a remembrance of what our voices can do individually and collectively when we listen first...to ourselves, to each other, and to the living world around us.

What I share in my workshops and one-on-one work are the core elements of what I have found, foundational techniques and practices that help us feel more alive, powerful, and connected through our voice.

Primal Singing was developed from my explorations of Western vocal techniques (classical, choral, & music-theater) and the knowledge and practices I was learning in cultural anthropology, animist somatics, and traditional forms of folk music. I wanted to understand what animates the voice, the different ways it can be expressed, its relationship with the body/spirit, and what the effects of that expression are on individual and group bodies.

Creative Eros

My work with eros is based around re-discovering and cultivating our innate erotic innocence, curiosity, and play. Modern culture simultaneously craves and fears the erotic, often warping its original expression as a connective, life-giving force into something to be controlled or extracted.

The practices I teach and the events I create stem from studying the work of Caffyn Jesse and Betty Martin on consent, safety, and voicing desire, Maya Luna on the subtle somatics of connection and reception, Lauren Harkness' neo-tantra dakini training, and Larissa Kaul's practices of high-integrity play with the erotic nature of our ever-unfolding reality.

Eros is one of our primary sources for nourishment and joy.
Cultivating this is not just about developing deeper relationships with other people (wonderful as that is), but deeper relationships with our own body and the bodies of land that we live on. Sacred eros is feeling the vibrant pulse of life itself moving through the relationship of all things and ermegersh you guys, we get to be a part of it!

Sacred Play: Teasing Out our Erotic Joy

Rewilding the Voice at Stone Moss Eco-Retreat

Sacred Play is a workshop focused on the intersection of sacred eros and joyful play.

This is a slow-moving, introductory-level workshop exploring energy and sensuality through breath, movement, touch and improv games.

This is for individuals and couples curious about neo-Tantra, sacred sensuality, and connecting deeper by dropping out of the head and into the body

Note: A brief questionnaire is required before ticket purchase. Click to inquire.

A half-day outdoor experience at Stone Moss Eco-Retreat, where you will have the chance to immerse yourself in nature. In this 4-hour workshop, we will move, sing, grieve, rage, play, and connect through our voices

Melissa Link will lead a movement practice followed by Natalie Nowytski, who will help us connect our voices with our environment and ancestral traditions, and lead us through a community grief singing practice.

After a short break, Laurel Armstrong will finish with Primal Singing, leading us in creating emergent music with community.
